About Us
The Wine Tree was first established in 2003, although we've been making wines and ciders for ourselves long before that. We've operated the orchard since the early 90's and thought sharing the merriment of our beverages was a much more enjoyable way to make a living than selling fruit. Not selling fruit at the market has also enabled us to ignore the aesthetics of the fruit we grow and we ceased spraying pesticides years ago. You won't taste better than tree ripened, pesticide free fruit that we give away during the season if it is surplus to our needs. We're committed to providing you with an authentic experience. We believe in making our own products so that we are intimately familiar with what we sell and are confident of it's quality. When you visit The Wine Tree you will be speaking directly with the wine maker Greg Caswell (aka Squire), or the cider maker Nick Caswell (Squire's son). Our whole premises is very open and we encourage you to ask us to show you any part of the operation you're interested in. We're also committed to providing you with a unique experience, choosing to manufacture products that are not widely available at your typical winery. Some people misunderstand why grapes are used to make "normal" wine - it's not necessarily due to grapes creating a superior product, rather that grapes were historically the only fruit with enough sugar to generate the desired alcohol concentration. Of course, these days we have ready access to sugar, so we can make wine out of almost anything that has the properties and flavour we want. We guarantee you'll be amazed with the wines we produce and that you'll leave with the joy of having experienced something new. |
